Kuje Chairman Reaffirms Commitment to Education, Teachers' Welfare, Inaugurates Scholarship & Chieftaincy Committees

The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalising public primary education, improving teachers’ welfare and creating a conducive learning environment for children across the Council.

The Chairman stated this during a meeting with Head Teachers of Local Education Authority (LEA) schools in Kuje Area Council, where he commended teachers for their dedication and sacrifices in shaping the future of children despite the challenges confronting the education sector.

Hon. Shekwolo declared that education remains a top priority of his administration, assuring that the Council would witness significant infrastructural development in the sector. He disclosed that four classrooms with offices have been renovated at Chibiri, Pasali, Toto-Ganbiya and Rubochi, while new classroom blocks are being constructed at Gova, Ruga Fulani Kango and Affa II.

He also disclosed that the Council has provided exercise books and other learning materials for distribution to pupils in public primary schools, stressing that the distribution would be properly monitored to ensure that the materials reach the intended beneficiaries.

On teachers’ welfare, the Chairman said his administration was making efforts to address outstanding welfare issues, including arrears of annual increments and promotions. He noted that since the assumption of office, attention had been given to some of these lingering matters, while the Council was also reviewing staff deployment and transfers to ensure that teachers are appropriately positioned and their services effectively felt within their communities.

The Chairman charged Head Teachers to demonstrate effective leadership, punctuality, discipline and accountability, stressing that laziness, absenteeism and dereliction of duty would not be tolerated. He urged them to closely monitor teachers and pupils, promote cleanliness and moral discipline, and ensure quality learning in their respective schools.

“Teachers’ welfare and productivity are key to our administration, as teachers play a vital role in shaping our society.

We must work together as a team to restore the glory of public primary education in Kuje,” the Chairman said.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the LEA, Alhaji Yunusa Zakara, urged teachers to adhere strictly to their job responsibilities, work harmoniously with colleagues and remain committed to effective service delivery.

In a related development, the Executive Chairman inaugurated a five-man Chieftaincy Matters Committee to examine and make appropriate recommendations on the lingering chieftaincy dispute in Bida, Gwargwada Ward.

The Chairman also inaugurated a 13-man Kuje Area Council Scholarship Committee charged with developing a transparent, credible and merit-based scholarship process.

The Scholarship Committee is expected to identify and screen deserving indigent but brilliant students across the Council’s 10 political wards, with the Chairman charging members to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability throughout the exercise.

He stressed that the scholarship programme must be guided by the principles of merit, equity and integrity, declaring: “No favouritism, no politics; only merit.”

Hon. Shekwolo urged members of both committees to discharge their responsibilities diligently and in the overall interest of the people of Kuje Area Council.
